Remimazolam Endoscopy Success Included Rescue and Supplemental-Dose Rules

A sedation-success endpoint can depend on the trial protocol as well as the patient’s response.

What the supplied paper reports

A seven-study endoscopy review tabulated success criteria including procedure completion, restrictions on rescue sedation and limits on supplemental dosing. The included studies also used differing remimazolam regimens, including fixed and response-guided approaches.

Study limits

A protocol-defined failure does not necessarily mean the procedure could not be completed with additional treatment. Conversely, completion alone does not establish compliance with every success criterion. The review could not provide a single preferred dose from the heterogeneous regimens.

Forensic implications

Read the endpoint definition before comparing success percentages. Record whether rescue medication, supplemental doses or ventilation changed classification. These rules matter when interpreting an apparently favorable drug comparison; they cannot independently establish the adequacy of sedation or the appropriateness of rescue care in an individual case.
