A reagent used to distinguish molecular forms may also alter the material being measured.
What the supplied research shows
An NMR study compared methylated cyclodextrins with oxazepam hemisuccinate. The cyclodextrins differed in their ability to distinguish the derivative’s enantiomers and in whether hydrolysis occurred during the tested interval. DIMEB provided useful chiral differentiation without detected hydrolysis under those conditions.
What it cannot establish
The study involved a particular oxazepam derivative in laboratory solutions. Its findings cannot be transferred directly to unchanged oxazepam in blood, urine or a patient. The absence of hydrolysis in a defined experiment is not proof of unlimited stability under every storage condition.
Forensic interpretation and case review
For analytical testimony, identify the actual analyte and preparation chemistry. Ask whether the measurement distinguishes the starting substance from transformation products, and whether stability was established over the relevant interval. This source supports attention to reagent-dependent changes and stereochemical resolution. It does not establish clinical elimination rates or show that a biological specimen underwent the same reaction.
