A rat experiment reported stronger seizure protection with walnut extract plus diazepam, while antagonist findings did not establish a simple shared-site mechanism.
Two observations
Walnut kernel extract increased the pentylenetetrazole amount needed to provoke seizures. Combining extract and diazepam produced stronger protection than either alone in the studied model. Flumazenil did not significantly reduce the extract’s anticonvulsant effect.
Enhanced effect does not prove identical receptor action
The authors described synergy, but greater combination activity by itself is not a complete receptor-binding or formal interaction analysis. Lack of antagonist reversal also leaves mechanisms unresolved. Intraperitoneal extract in a chemically induced rat seizure model differs from ordinary dietary walnut intake and clinical epilepsy treatment. The findings cannot establish a human supplement strategy or a diazepam dose adjustment. Their contribution is a limited experimental interaction signal that should retain both the positive combination result and the negative antagonist observation.
